highlights of the week

Claude to use computer “the way people do”

Anthropic has been sprinting to prepare the perfect human costume for this Halloween with the drop of two groundbreaking updates in the last week. The most notable feature of Claude 3.5 Sonnet is Computer use. The description for this feature is simple: Direct Claude to use computers the way people do.

With Computer use, developers can direct Claude to look at a screen, move the cursor, click buttons, and type text. In the demo video, the researcher asked Claude to fill out a vendor request form using data from the spreadsheet or looking up the vendor’s data from a portal.

Big companies such as Asana, Canva, and DoorDash have started to explore this new feature. While Claude is talking about how Computer use can conduct testing, quality checks, and data research, users are talking more about ordering pizza, booking a flight, or compiling news from different sources. Either way, Computer use is advertised to automate the repetitive tasks that most of us prefer not to do.

An important note is it is now still in the experimental phase and errors should be expected.

The other remarkable update is the Analysis tool. Again based on its description, Claude is trying hard to be passed as a human: “Works more like a real data analyst.” This real data analyst (wannabe) can:

  • Data Parsing & Interpretation: Quickly interprets and organizes large data sets, identifying trends and patterns with high accuracy.
  • Automatically Code Running: From only writing code, now Claude can run that code to support all types of analysis tasks.
  • Customizable Reports: Allows users to customize the format and structure of reports, providing flexibility in data presentation.
  • Interactive Feedback Loop: Users can interact and refine their queries based on real-time feedback from Claude, enhancing precision.

This edition going out during Halloween does not mean I’m saying these updates are scary. I think they are interesting, not only regarding the actual feature but also about how REAL people will put it to use.

And maybe in the future, no one even cares if the task is done by a human or an Al.

Is OpenAI’s Orion Trick or Treat?

Many publishers have circulated a rumor that OpenAI’s next big AI model - Orion, or ChatGPT-5, is coming this December. This model is rumored to be 100x more powerful than GPT-4 and is eventually advancing toward Artificial General Intelligence.

What is the fun of this? It’s Sam Altman bluntly calling this fake news.

However, he also confirms that plenty of new stuff is coming, just not this one.

OpenAI is always full of surprises, and all we can do is wait.

10 effective prompts using Google’s prompting guide

Google recently published a prompting guide to show us how to use Gemini more effectively for work. Although this is for Gemini Workspace, I believe the principle of a good prompt applies to all current AI chatbots.

Here are 10 ready-to-use prompts following this guideline. If you want to customize your own, try our Prompt Generator here.

  1. Launch a new product: "As a marketing manager preparing for a new product launch, draft a social media post that highlights the product's unique features in an engaging way. Target the post to attract young adults and include a call-to-action to sign up for early access or pre-orders. Use an enthusiastic tone and incorporate popular hashtags related to innovation and technology."
  1. Encourage new sign-ups through email marketing: "Write an email for a lead nurturing campaign targeting potential customers who visited our website but didn’t sign up. The email should briefly introduce our product, emphasize its main benefits, and offer a limited-time discount code to incentivize registration. Keep the tone professional yet inviting."
  1. Create SEO-friendly blog content: "As a content creator for a lifestyle blog, draft an introductory paragraph for a blog post titled '10 Simple Tips for Better Work-Life Balance.' Aim for a warm and conversational tone, and include a few keywords related to work-life balance to help with SEO."
  1. Create a YouTube video: "Create a 30-second opening script for a YouTube video titled '5 Productivity Hacks for Busy Professionals.' The introduction should capture attention immediately and give viewers a clear idea of what they’ll learn by watching. Use an upbeat and motivating tone to keep viewers engaged."
  1. Streamline onboarding for new hires: "As an HR manager, create a welcoming onboarding email for new hires on their first day. The email should include a quick overview of their schedule, introductions to key team members, and links to relevant onboarding materials. Maintain a friendly and encouraging tone to help them feel valued and comfortable."
  1. Gather feedback on employee satisfaction and engagement: "Draft a short, anonymous employee satisfaction survey that covers key areas such as work-life balance, job satisfaction, and career growth opportunities. Keep the questions clear and neutral to encourage honest responses. Include options for both multiple-choice and open-ended feedback."
  1. Update stakeholders about the project: "As a project manager, draft a brief project update email for stakeholders, covering key progress made, any upcoming milestones, and any risks or challenges that the team is addressing. Keep the language concise and informative, with bullet points for easy readability."
  1. Prioritize tasks: "Create a prioritized list of tasks for the final phase of a project, categorizing each task as high, medium, or low priority. Each task should include a brief description and estimated completion date to ensure clarity for the team."
  1. Present a new feature idea: "As a product manager, write a short proposal for a new feature for a mobile app that will enhance user engagement. The proposal should outline the feature, its purpose, and the benefits to users. Use a formal and persuasive tone that aligns with the goal of gaining stakeholder buy-in."
  1. Organize and focus tasks for the day: "Draft a daily planner template for personal productivity, dividing tasks into 'High Priority,' 'Medium Priority,' and 'Low Priority' sections. Include spaces for note-taking, reminders, and a brief section for end-of-day reflections to assess productivity and set goals for the next day."
