Highlights of the week

Are Perplexity’s Pro Search Updates Really Impactful?

We once described Perplexity as a child of Google and ChatGPT. It was, regardless, still a search engine. However, with the new updates, it has now become more “ChatGPT”-coded.

What's New with Perplexity Pro Search?

  1. Multi-Step Reasoning: Have you ever had a complex question that needs a detailed answer? Perplexity’s Pro Search can now break down your queries into smaller steps and give you a thorough, well-rounded response
  1. Advanced Math Skills: With Wolfram|Alpha’s integration, Perplexity can now handle advanced calculations and data analysis, whether a challenging calculus problem or a detailed data set.
  2. Programming Assistance: Perplexity can now help you debug your code, generate snippets, and even provide detailed explanations of programming concepts.
  3. Deep Research and Summarization: In addition to synthesizing information from various sources, Perplexity can also generate a detailed report from your prompts.

The new features are exciting and worth checking out. However, let’s not forget that Perplexity is facing criticism from Forbes and Wired for spreading misinformation and illegally scraping information from websites against the developers’ privacy settings. You will still need to be critical when using the tool.

Figma AI tool was canceled for copying Apple

Another thought-to-be exciting AI update turned out to be a loophole.

Figma recently had to disable its new AI design tool, "Make Design," after it was found to be producing designs that closely mimicked Apple's Weather app. Users reported that when prompted to create a weather app, the tool repeatedly generated layouts nearly identical to Apple’s design. Figma CEO Dylan Field acknowledged the issue, attributing it to underlying design systems and a rushed QA process.
