The benefits of AI for marketers are plain to see. Since the rise of ChatGPT and other popular generative AI models, we have a helpful assistant for daily marketing tasks like brainstorming ideas, crafting content, generating visuals, and even optimizing campaigns.

But many more AI-enabled solutions are growing and gaining traction in the marketing field beyond the ‘mainstream’ AIs.

After releasing our research report, “Generative AI Top 150: The World’s Most Used AI Tools,” and continuing to refine it into monthly “Top 100 Generative AI for Work” rankings, we’ve been eager to take a closer look at AI platforms across departments.

After the first one, “The World’s Most Popular HR AI Tools,” here comes AI for marketing - another primary beneficiary of AI technology. We looked at the top platforms for marketing that are either ‘native AI’ or have launched prominent AI features in their offerings. (See more about the research methodology below).

From this, we created a Top 50 of the most popular AI platforms in Marketing. The full list is as follows:

Key Insights from “The World’s Most Popular AI Marketing Tools”

1. The Category ‘Image Generator & Editor’ Takes a Distinct Lead with Almost 70% of the Total Traffic of 50 AI Marketing Tools

Not surprisingly, the Image Generator & Editor category leads the pack by far among the top 50 AI for marketing platforms, accounting for 160.98 million monthly visitors and with six tools claiming the Top 10 spots.

It’s consistent with our Top 100 AI for Work analysis, in which Image Generators & Editors is the most popular AI application (for nine months straight!) besides the GPT category. (Check out key insights of Top 100 AI for Work in October here).

Meanwhile, the runner-up category, Content Writers & Editors, comes in at just 11.23% of the total traffic, even with more tools on the list.

Marketers increasingly turn to AI to streamline visual content creation, from quick edits to generating entirely new images. Not every team has design expertise, and AI tools offer an accessible solution, enabling faster, scalable content production.

Popular use cases of AI for marketing images include social media graphics creation, image generation from text prompts, e-commerce product design, and logo creation.

#33 Predis.ai creates multiple ad poster options and suggests captions based on simple input fields.
The Rundown AI uses #5 Midjourney to create illustrative images.

Here is the list of the 12 most popular AI image marketing platforms for reference:

2. Strong Interest in AI Marketing Video Tools, Making Them the Third Most Popular Category with 22.8 Million Monthly Visits

Video content is on the rise and increasingly central to marketing strategies. With nine tools ranking in the top 50 and generating a combined 22.8 million monthly visits, the Video Generator and Editor category stands as the third most popular AI marketing tool category.

Analyzing those platforms, we see key use cases include repurposing existing video materials, editing video content without technical skills, and creating videos with AI clones (voices & avatars).

The top 3 AI Video Generator and Editor platforms are OpusClip #6 (turning long videos into social media clips), HeyGen #8 (creating videos with AI avatars), and Fliki #14 (converting text-based content into videos).

For reference, here are the nine AI marketing tools for videos among the top 50:

3. AI for Writing is the Biggest Segment by Tool Count, with Short-Form Copywriting in Highest Demand

With 16 tools registering the top 50 AI for marketing platforms, ‘Content Writer & Editor’ is the biggest category by tool count and is in the lead when it comes to using AI in marketing workflows. This doesn’t even account for the many marketers who just turn to ChatGPT for research and drafting content.

Here are tool lists by category for reference:

Notably, short-form writing tools, such as those for social posts and ad copy, attract nearly twice the traffic of SEO-focused tools, indicating a strong demand for that specific use case. Collectively, these tools drive over 12.66 million monthly visits and 2.18 million searches.

The top three AI Content Writer & Editor platforms are:

#9 Grammarly AI (Editor), with 4,97 million monthly visitors and 610,070 branded searches

GrammarlyGO works across platforms to assist in composing, rewriting, and ideating content.

#11 Writersonic (SEO), with 3,09 million visitors, 634,786 searches

WriteSonic generates SEO first drafts from scratch based on your referenced articles and keyword and outline inputs.

#13 Simplified (Copywriting), with 4,22 million visitors, 383,788 searches

Simplified offers an AI-assisted powerhouse for marketers with quick-turnaround projects with built-in features for captions, email subject lines, ad taglines, and more in one place.

4. AI Marketing is Highly Adopted in Asia, especially… India

Nearly half of the top 50 AI marketing platforms have the largest traffic source from markets outside the US. Notably, India stands out as the leading non-US market, driving the most traffic for 18 of these tools.

5. Other AI Platform Categories for Marketing

We don’t just look at the most popular categories but also helpful use cases of AI for marketing and which platforms people are actually embracing for those purposes.

Below are noteworthy platforms registering the top 50 with interesting AI marketing applications beyond image, content, and video creation:

  • Lead Generation and Conversion: #10 Instantly, #37 6Sense
  • Website Builder and Optimizer: #15 Wix AI, #28 Squarespace Blueprint AI, #25 Durable, #30 10Web

Top 50 Most-Used AI Marketing Tools - The Full Data

The above presents the overview of the world's most popular AI marketing tools, including top use cases and which platforms marketers worldwide are using to navigate your adoption strategies.

If you want a deeper dive with my detailed analysis and reviews of noteworthy AI marketing tools, I have an exclusive version available for Lead with AI PRO members with the full data chart.

About the Research Methodology

To create this overview, we reviewed over 100 AI for marketing tools referenced in news, online directories, and lists.

Our starting point is to take usage data from the only standardized source, Similarweb. While no publicly available data source is perfect, Similarweb has scored well in comparative benchmarks.

We took the average relative ranking on Similarweb as proxy indicators for usage. Based on their data, we made our calculations as follows:

  • For web traffic, we took the average monthly visits from August - October 2024.
  • For branded searches (as a proxy for true popularity), we multiplied the percentage of average web traffic by the percentage of branded searches.
  • For the final ranking, we averaged the web traffic rank and search rank. In cases of ties, we prioritized the ones with higher monthly visits.

Wherever a platform has a separate website and consumer portal, we analyze both to have the most comprehensive picture of consumer interest and actual usage.

We may have overseen some tools but believe this is a comprehensive selection, and invite companies we’ve overseen to submit their listing for our next survey.

We excluded tools that existed before Generative AI unless they were significantly transformed or gained notable engagement with their built-in AI features (for example, SEMrush and some social media management tools).

For those, we applied an estimated percentage of their total traffic that could be attributed to their AI features. Often, this is based on statements from the company, like Canva, noting how people have produced over 4 billion AI creations over the past year. Otherwise, we took a standard 5–10% of total web traffic.

For platforms with wide-ranging audiences, like some image and video generators or writing editors, we applied or further applied another estimated percentage to exclude non-work and non-marketing use cases.

Whenever a platform had multiple use cases, we listed it under its apparent most-used case, analyzed from search data or sub-URL popularity. This is why Canva is under Image Generators, even though it also has a significant presence in the video category. Or why writing tools like Jasper and Copy.ai are considered for short-form copywriting, despite they also have features for writing blog posts.

This is a very much an imperfect view into the popularity of AI marketing tools, driven by our curiosity.

In future months, if the appetite is there for it, we’d love to include real usage numbers, as reported by these platforms, to create better rankings.
