Nvidia is building AI supercomputers for everyone

Project Digits, as presented by Nvidia at CES 2025, is envisioned as a compact, accessible AI supercomputer aimed at bringing the power of AI to a wider audience. While specific technical details and features weren't fully revealed, the available information suggests Project Digits acts as a hybrid platform, combining a powerful local AI device with seamless cloud integration. You can think of it as “a Mac mini but for AI”.

Priced at $3,000, it’s designed for anyone who wants to explore the possibilities of AI—whether creating, researching, or problem-solving—without relying on costly online services. Here are Huang’s highlights on the project and its implications:

  • Democratizing AI: Huang emphasized that AI is becoming the new standard for computing and software development. Just as Windows 95 revolutionized personal computing, he envisions "Project Digits" as a catalyst for bringing AI supercomputing power to the masses, empowering not only researchers and large companies but also individual developers, engineers, artists, and anyone who uses a computer.
  • Shrinking the AI Supercomputer: Recognizing that the original DGX-1, while revolutionary, was large and expensive, Huang showcased "Project Digits" as a significantly smaller AI supercomputer. This compact, potentially portable device is designed to fit seamlessly into various work environments, making it more accessible and affordable for a broader audience.
  • Powered by a "Super Secret" Chip: Huang revealed that "Project Digits" is built on a new, highly efficient chip codenamed "GB 110," which he described as "the smallest Grace Blackwell that we make." This chip is a collaboration with MediaTek, integrating a custom-designed CPU with Nvidia's powerful Blackwell GPU architecture.
  • Seamless Cloud Integration: "Project Digits" will function as both a local workstation and a cloud-connected AI platform, running the entire Nvidia AI software stack, including DGX Cloud. This hybrid approach allows users to leverage the power of cloud computing while also having a dedicated, local AI device for development and experimentation.

While specific applications weren't detailed, Huang suggested that "Project Digits" could empower various user groups, from software engineers leveraging AI-assisted coding tools to creative artists exploring new forms of AI-driven art and design. The goal is to make AI a fundamental tool for anyone who uses a computer.

The device is expected to launch in May 2025. While it’s too early to say whether this mini-supercomputer will be practical for the average user, it has already sparked online discussions. Many predict it will sell out within minutes of becoming available, potentially making it the “next Mac” (but for AI).

Would you pay $3000 to experience Project Digits?

ChatGPT lets you schedule tasks

OpenAI has rolled out a new feature in ChatGPT that could redefine how you manage your tasks and schedule your day. Here’s what’s new:

  • Schedule Reminders: ChatGPT can now set reminders for specific tasks, ensuring you never miss important deadlines or events.
  • Recurring Tasks: Automate repetitive tasks like daily reports or weekly check-ins by setting them as recurring within ChatGPT.

Imagine asking, “Remind me to follow up with the client on Thursday,” “Send weather forecast every day at 7 am,” or “Schedule a monthly budget review on the first of every month,” and having it done automatically. This update makes ChatGPT not just an assistant for answering questions but a tool for day-to-day task automation.
