The new OpenAI model is here
OpenAI has dropped a new model, and it’s not ChatGPT 5. Instead, they decided to start a new series and reset it to 1: OpenAI o1.
The most notable update of OpenAI o1 is it spends a longer time to think, try different solutions, and recognize its own mistakes before giving out the final solution. This model is seen as a leap in how AI chatbots can mimic human’s way of thinking and reasoning, moving toward human-level intelligence. It can now properly count the number of “r” in the word “strawberry.”

Main Features of OpenAI o1
- Chain of thoughts: You can see how o1 tracks its thought process and responds.
- Better at reasoning: The ability to reason is the key differentiator of o1 to its predecessors.
- Field strength: OpenAI suggests that o1 would be most suitable for complex tasks in math and coding.
However, the currently available model of OpenAI o1-review has some major limitations. It cannot search the web or “read” documents or images. As OpenAI stated, it’s pretty much like a reset with a new line of product series with its own way of thinking and reasoning.
Hence, for daily tasks, until there are new updates on the official Open o1, GPT-4o will still be your good friend. Meanwhile, o1-preview is efficient in helping you with complicated math and coding projects.
In testing OpenAI o1-preview, I find it interesting to use the model for a wider range of tasks, leveraging its ability to test and reconsider its answers.

Prompt templates for o1:
Marketing: Launch a new product line
Task Description:
- Develop a comprehensive marketing plan to increase the sales of our new eco-friendly product line.
Context:
- We have launched a range of biodegradable household cleaning products aimed at environmentally conscious consumers.
Requirements:
- Consider at least three different marketing strategies (e.g., social media campaigns, influencer partnerships, community events).
- Evaluate the potential reach, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with our brand values for each option.
- Recommend the best strategy based on this analysis.
- Provide a step-by-step implementation plan for the recommended strategy.
Product Management: Feature Prioritization Matrix
Task Description:
- Develop a prioritization matrix for upcoming software features.
Context:
- We have limited resources and need to focus on high-impact features.
Requirements:
- Use criteria like customer value and development effort.
- Present a clear ranking.
- Suggest a method for scoring.
HR: Performance Review
Task Description:
- Create templates for annual employee performance reviews.
Context:
- We aim to standardize the evaluation process across departments.
Requirements:
- Include sections for goals, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Provide rating scales.
- Use clear and unbiased language.
Copilot Pages: Claude’s Artifacts, but better
Microsoft has unveiled a new addition to its suite of AI-powered productivity tools—Copilot Pages.
People have been saying that Copilot Pages is similar to Claude’s Artifacts. It’s a useful metaphor to have an idea of what Copilot Pages is, but not quite efficient in capturing what it can do:
- Copilot Pages pulls out a new page for the response when you work with Copilot chatbot (like Artifacts)
- The Pages is shareable and editable by multiple users at the same time
- You can simultaneously pull new information from the chatbot to Pages:some text
- Web mode: information pulled directly from the web, providing real-time updates and external content relevant to the ongoing task.
- Work mode: designed for creating and collaborating on documents that rely heavily on internal data, insights, and resources.
