highlights of the week

A future where language is no longer a barrier

Within the grand updates in 2025, the company will launch the public preview of the new AI-powered Interpreter feature in Microsoft Teams. It’s like having your personal translator right in your meeting.

Imagine chatting with someone who speaks a completely different language—no awkward pauses or misunderstandings. The Interpreter translates what you’re saying in real-time and keeps the voice sounding like you, just in a different language.

I can see how this will be a game-changer for international conferences, global teams in localized businesses, and technical interviews where the language used to be your biggest challenge.

Besides, other AI updates coming to Microsoft Teams include:

  • Multilingual Meeting Transcription: Meeting transcription will soon support multilingual meetings with up to 31 supported translation languages.
  • Smarter Copilot in Teams: Copilot in Teams will soon have a deeper understanding of meeting content, including conversations, chats, and on-screen presentations. This will allow Copilot to recap meetings, answer questions, and provide insights based on the entire meeting context.
  • Visual Content Understanding: In early 2025, Microsoft Teams will gain the ability to understand and recap visual content shared during meetings. This includes content from PowerPoint presentations and web pages.
  • Teams Super Resolution: This feature utilizes the local NPU chip in Copilot Plus PCs to enhance the quality of video calls. It can upscale the video of participants dialing in through a weak internet connection, improving the overall video call experience. This feature will be available in early 2025.

With all the exciting updates, I can’t wait to see how Microsoft Teams will change the way we work and connect.

OpenAI is coming for Google

OpenAI is reportedly exploring the development of its own web browser, aiming to integrate the capabilities of its ChatGPT chatbot. This move could directly challenge Google's dominance in the browser and search engine markets.

The company has already presented prototypes to major firms such as Condé Nast and Redfin. While the idea is still in its early stages, the ambition is clear—revolutionize how people interact with the web by combining traditional browsing with advanced AI assistance.
