highlights of the week

Create GenAI podcasts from your phone in one click

ElevenLabs, a leading company in AI-driven voice synthesis, just launched a new feature called GenFM, which allows you to turn a YouTube video, document, research, article link, or plain text into a 2-host podcast. It is now available in the ElevenReader app in 32 languages.

It is easy to use. After you upload a document or a link to an article or a video, the app will automatically choose two AI hosts it deems fit with your content, and add filler words such as “um” “ah” to make it more natural and conversational, and voilà, your podcast is ready with a running text transcript.

Some articles position GenFM as a direct competitor of NotebookLM, but I think not quite. In terms of quality and naturalness, NotebookLM is more human-like than GenFM. However, the nature of the two apps is different:

  • NotebookLM lets you interact with the documents and videos, including asking questions, restructuring formats, or exporting a two-host podcast format as audio and using it in a bigger product.
  • GenFM lets you convert documents and videos into a podcast, which you can directly share with other people, and most importantly, it’s scalable.

GenFM is a feature in ElevenReader, a platform of (AI) audiobooks, where you can consume books and newsletters in audio formats. Many popular newsletters now have their own ElevenReader channel where people can subscribe and listen to their newsletter as a podcast on the go. Hence, GenFM serves as a feature within this app to aid creators in creating and publishing their works more natively. It allows you to upload newsletter series and the news topics you like, convert them into a more interactive format, and share them with others.

That’s why I wouldn’t say GenFM is a direct competitor of NotebookLM. Both are amazing (and free) and have different use cases. While I don’t think ElevenReader can compete with existing audiobook apps, transforming newsletters into sharable podcast playlists natively on the platform is its true competitive edge with huge potential.

Claude can now clone your writing style better

Anthropic has introduced a new feature in Claude, allowing users to personalize the responses’ tone and voice by selecting from preset options or training it with their own writings. Now users can:

  • Choose from three preset styles:some text
    • Formal: Clear and polished responses
    • Concise: Short and direct responses
    • Explanatory: Educational responses for learning new concepts
  • Customize styles by uploading sample content that reflects your way of writing, specifying instructions, and editing your preferences as they evolve.

This feature is designed to make responses feel more natural and suitable for specific technical documents or professional emails. This update can help businesses standardize their tones and voices when communicating internally and externally.

10 ideas to get started with ElevenReader

  1. Convert your favorite newsletters into audio and listen while traveling.
  2. Convert lengthy articles and complicated research papers you want to read into podcasts, making it easier to digest the information.
  3. Instead of leaving tabs open, save articles and have ElevenReader narrate them during your free time.
  4. Convert blog posts from your favorite websites into audio versions, turning your browsing into an engaging auditory experience.
  5. Turn internal team updates or newsletters into a podcast playlist.
  6. Create concise audio highlights of department reports, allowing stakeholders to listen to key information without reading through long documents.
  7. Convert detailed market research reports into audio formats that stakeholders can listen to in small segments, making large datasets easier to understand.
  8. Upload documents in the language you are studying, and listen to the hosts’ narration while following the transcript to improve your listening.
  9. Convert transcribed interviews with industry leaders into polished podcast episodes.
  10. Convert your lesson slides into a podcast series to review what you have learned.
