Let’s dive in!
OpenAI Shipmas can decide how we work in 2025
OpenAI’s advent calendar has been one of its kind, and so far, it’s only getting better. Here are the updates from the first 9 days, emphasizing the ones that I believe would immediately benefit your work.
Day 1: o1 Model & ChatGPT Pro:
- OpenAI released the o1 model, designed to enhance complex reasoning capabilities. Alongside this, ChatGPT Pro was introduced, offering unlimited access to advanced features for $200 per month.
Day 2: Reinforcement Fine-Tuning Research Program:
- OpenAI invites researchers, universities, and enterprises to apply for alpha access to refine AI models on complex tasks.
- Sora, moved out of research preview, allowing users to generate videos from text prompts, enhancing creative expression.
- Canvas, an interface for collaborative writing and coding with ChatGPT, was initially launched in October. However, in the announcement this time, there is a big update. Users can now run and debug code in real-time with Canvas.
Day 5: ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence:
- With the integration of ChatGPT into Apple's ecosystem, users can directly consult ChatGPT, ask about the surroundings, and receive real-time instructions via Siri.
Day 6: Advanced Voice with Video & Santa Mode:
- This is huge. Users can now “facetime” with ChatGPT in Advanced Voice Mode, ask it about everything via the camera, and even share the screen to have ChatGPT’s assistance on any task you are working on. Imagine having ChatGPT to help you cook a new dish or give feedback on your body language in a pitching rehearsal.
- Introduction of advanced voice features, including a festive "Santa Mode” voice. The kid in your house can now listen to bedtime stories and Christmas lore from Santa!
The interaction is smooth and interactive with nearly no awkward pause at all!
- Imagine Google Drive and Custom GPT have a child, Projects would be it. You can now create new Projects, a folder system to organize your chats according to the topic, with the possibility to store relevant files relating to the tasks and refer back to them quickly when needed.
- You can also add instructions to tailor how ChatGPT responds in the project.
- You no longer need to toggle between different models anymore because you can choose to have canvas or use o1 in the response by simply selecting from the tools.
- Search is now available globally for all logged-in users, both paid and free. The interface has been updated for easier navigation, and users can now ask ChatGPT to surf the web using Advanced Voice Mode. You can read my review comparing ChatGPT Search to Google Search here.
Day 9: OpenAI o1 and new tools for developers
- OpenAI announced new tools designed to support developers working with the o1 model. These updates include enhanced API capabilities, refined debugging tools, and improved documentation to facilitate building and deploying applications.
There have been some major model releases, like Sora and o1 Pro. However, my favorite updates are the ones that seamlessly integrate into your daily workflow, making it both smoother and more engaging. Features like Canvas, Advanced Voice with video, and Projects stand out for their ability to simplify tasks while adding a touch of excitement to everyday work.
And you? Which of these updates will you integrate into your workflow?
