Social media is no longer just for humans
The first week of 2025 has been eventful for Meta, shifting from promoting AI bots on their platforms to removing them after backlash. Creating AI bots on Facebook and Instagram isn’t new, though. Meta launched AI Studio in July 2024, allowing users to design AI characters based on their needs and interests.
Meta is further integrating these AI-generated bots into Facebook and Instagram, aiming to enhance user engagement by populating these platforms with AI-driven characters. Connor Hayes, vice-president of product for generative AI at Meta, shared that they “expect these AIs to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that (human) accounts do.”
Here are what you can do in Meta’s AI Studio:
- Customizable AI character: Users can create and interact with bots tailored to specific interests or personas, such as coaches, comedians, food reviewers, or travel planners.
- Influencers’ clone: Influencers can create their own clone to engage with the followers like replying to comments or answering messages.
- Business Assistance: Automated responses to customer inquiries, product suggestions, and transaction support on platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger.
- Interactive AI Features: Tools for photo edits, video dubbing, and AI-suggested captions to boost user engagement.
This is just the start—Meta’s next move is to bring AI chatbots to life. Envision AI characters with their own bios, profile pics, and the ability to post and share content like any regular user. The goal? To make interacting with AIs feel natural and almost unnoticeable.
To stay ahead of this trend, content creators and marketing professionals should consider:
- Leveraging AI for Engagement: How can AI characters make your brand more responsive and engaging for users? Could they enhance real-time interaction?
- Learning Insights: Can AI bots simulate customer personas to provide actionable insights into audience behavior and optimize campaigns?
- Defining Your Edge: As a human creator, what sets you apart from AI influencers? How do you feel about AI moving from a supportive role to direct competition in content creation?
- Understanding Your Audience: Are your audiences comfortable with AI-generated content? A recent study found that 52% of consumers, particularly Gen Z, are skeptical and hold negative views about AI-created ads.
Meta is facing significant backlash after sharing their vision. Users criticized these AI bots as “creepy” and irrelevant, expressing frustration over their inability to block them due to a bug. In response, Meta has begun removing these AI profiles to address user concerns and fix the blocking issue.

In 5 Steps: Set up and Experiment with Claude Computer Use
AI agents have long been expected to be the future of productivity, capable of performing complex tasks autonomously. But despite the hype, their development has been slow, with most tools still in experimental stages. Anthropic’s Computer-Use Demo changes the game, offering a glimpse into a future where AI can interact with computers just like we do—navigating desktops, filling forms, and even analyzing data.
If you’re eager to see the potential of AI agents in action, this step-by-step guide will walk you through setting up and experimenting with this exciting feature.
